American Baritone, Joseph O’Shea, has recently been seen portraying William Dale in Florida Grand Opera’s production of Kevin Puts’ Silent Night, and Papageno in Mobile Opera’s production of The Magic Flute.
He spent the last two years as a Resident Artist at both Pensacola Opera and Florida Grand Opera and his Summer 2024 with Opera Theater St. Louis, covering Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Cincinnati Opera to participate in the World Premiere of the first fully staged production of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio. While engaged with Cincinnati Opera, he premiered for a closed audience, the first ever workshop of Edmond Dédé’s Morgiane as Haji Hassan. This was curated by Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion: New Works, for Opera Creole and Opera Lafayette’s 2025 world premiere. Previous Summers saw him frequent The Janiec Opera Company at Brevard Music Center, Cincinnati Opera, and FIO-Italia.
Joseph was raised in Mobile, Alabama, where he received his BM in Vocal Performance from the University of South Alabama with Dr. Thomas Rowell. He later received his MM in Vocal Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music while working with Amy Johnson.
Joseph will return to Opera Theater of St. Louis in 2026 to perform a number of roles in OTSL’s second workshop of Tobias Picker’s Safe Haven, perform Samuel and Cover Major General in The Pirates of Penzance. He will also perform Top in Park City Opera’s production of Aaron Copeland’s The Tender Land.
