Currently a Florida Grand Opera 2025/26 Studio Artist, Joseph O’Shea will be showcased in various productions and events throughout the South Florida area. Upcoming performances will see him portray William Dale in Kevin Puts’ Silent Night, a gut-wrenching historical fiction depicting the events leading to the WWI Christmas Eve Truce.

He spent Summer 2024 with Opera Theater St. Louis, covering Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Cincinnati Opera to participate in the World Premiere of the first fully staged production of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio. While engaged with Cincinnati Opera, he premiered for a closed audience, the first ever workshop of Edmond Dédé’s Morgiane as Haji Hassan. This was curated by Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion: New Works, for Opera Creole and Opera Lafayette’s 2025 world premiere. Previous Summers saw him frequent The Janiec Opera Company at Brevard Music Center, Cincinnati Opera, and FIO-Italia.

After finishing the 2024/25 Studio Artist Season with Pensacola Opera, he and his family have based themselves in Mobile, Alabama, where Joseph will be performing his first Papageno in Mobile Opera’s 2026 production of The Magic Flute.

Joseph O’Shea was raised in Mobile, Alabama, where he received his BM in Vocal Performance from the University of South Alabama with Dr. Thomas Rowell. Joseph has performed in numerous productions with Mobile Opera, Pensacola Opera, Chickasaw Civic Theater, Mobile Symphony Orchestra and multiple intercollegiate programs. He then received his MM in Vocal Performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music while working with Amy Johnson. He was heavily involved in choral and solo performances, while also singing as a resident bass with the St. Peter in Chains Cathedral Basilica Choir for 3 years.
